Unable to associate file extension with default program [Fix]

Maybe you’ve already experienced this phenomenon.

You are trying to set a custom application as a default program for a specific file extension but somehow the “Open With” dialog doesn’t remember application you have selected.

Here’s probably a solution for you.

  1. Check the filename of the application you want to use as your default program, e.g. PDFXCview.exe.
  2. Open the Registry Editor (Win+R –> regedit –> Enter)
  3. Go to following key:
    [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Applications\]
  4. Search for an entry named after the filename of your application
  5. Now simply delete that entry

LG GH20NS10 + Windows 7 = Problems (Fix)

If you own a LG GH20NS10 Sata burner and have installed Windows 7 or are going to do you’ll most probably experience some issues with this drive.

Windows 7 somehow got a problem with this burner. Already the installation from DVD is problematic. The installation takes many hours. If you managed to install Windows 7 successfully you’ll encounter another annoying problem.
Every time you put a disc in your LG GH20NS10 the system freezes.
If you didn’t even manage to install Windows 7 try the steps below starting with 4. and start the installation again.

Here’s the complete solution that may work for you if you have already installed Windows 7 and experience the freezing Windows problem:

  1. Create following registry entry:
    Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services\msahci]
    "Start"=dword:00000000

  2. Or simply copy the above code into notepad and save it somewhere with the extension .reg and double click the file.
  3. Now restart your system.
  4. Enter the BIOS
  5. Select Integrated Peripherals
  6. Go to On-Chip ATA Devices
  7. Change the RAID mode to AHCI
  8. Save the settings and restart

Another thing you could try is to install the latest Firmware from LG.
I would recommend to do this in another PC.

Windows 7: Make Explorer start in My Computer instead of Libraries

image
If you find it annoying that the Windows Explorer Icon on the taskbar always opens with the Libraries then there’s an easy way to change the behaviour.
image
  1. Right click on the Explorer icon
  2. Right click on Windows Explorer
  3. Select properties
    Explorer properties
  4. Input at the end of the target field “/e,” without the quotes so that you get the following line:
    ”%windir%\explorer.exe /e,”
  5. You’re done. Explorer will now always open in the My Computer view.

You can change the Explorer Command Line Switches to make Windows Explorer start in any folder you want.

I my very noob skills I exchanged it with a new one and to my surprise the device was working again.
